Autumn in Maine

On one of my many trips back to Maine I took my mother for a drive along the mountains during the autumn leave changing. This is actually quite rare for me these days because the cost of travel (even in points) is very high during this time of the season.

I believe the past several years the color of the leaves have been less vibrant than usual. I expect it is due to the warmer climates in the area. I remember recently talking to my mother about the winter weather and she remarked how cold it was. When I asked the temperature, she said it was 22 F. I told her I remember as a child I always wished for a winter day in the 20's so it would be warm enough to ice fish! Wow, things have changed,

Anyway, I'll share some fall foliage pictures from the mountain area in Maine. Now, Maine is the proud owner of the termination of the Appalachian Trail at Mt Khatadin. These pictures were not taken there, but along the Appalachians in the western part of the state.

It's funny how you take these things for granted when you grow up with it. Things are often appreciated in retrospect.

This is a popular time in New England to visit, but I wonder for how much longer? These photos look nice, but nothing like the color changes of years past.

Call it climate change brought on by man, or natural cyclic change, it doesn't matter to the leaves. Without colder weather in the fall, the leaves will not reclaim their former glory.

These autumn drives are more than just about the leaves. It's about the beauty of the nature in Maine in general. With the mountains, lakes, and streams to view, it is a wonderful place to visit really anytime.

This is Maine in the fall. When looking at the pictures I'm reminded of the Maine State song I learned as a child from our beloved music teacher, Mrs. Oglivie:

Oh, Pine Tree State,

Your woods, fields and hills,

Your lakes, streams and rock bound coast

Will ever fill our hearts with thrills,

And tho' we seek far and wide

Our search will be in vain,

To find a fairer spot on earth

Than Maine! Maine! Maine!

In fact, I have searched far and wide, and the song rings true. There is no fairer spot on earth than Maine.

Yes, Maine is such a beautiful State. Although I have only traveled to 12 other states I have yet to find one I would rather live in. The fact that I don’t have to worry about my home being taken from me because of violent weather issues is another factor. Watching the news and seeing towns totally destroyed by weather is very unsettling. Love living in Maine. Thanks for sharing your pictures of our beautiful State.

12 states are a lot. It’s a quarter of our country. And Mexico too. I hear the water is great to drink there. 😁

I am so fortunate to be able to enjoy these picturesque spots every year. The colors are colorful but I agree not as beuitiful as years ago. The lakes mountains streams and oceans are also beuitiful places to visit and see.
